They are local services, not one national system. The booking method, meter, card acceptance and vehicle availability can change from city to city.

Recognising an authorised service
Use a marked taxi from an official rank, a known dispatch company or one arranged by accommodation or a trusted operator. Vehicle markings and local rules vary, so avoid inventing one universal visual test.
Do not follow an unsolicited person at an airport or station merely because they say “taxi.” Confirm the service and vehicle before handing over luggage.
Meter or fixed fare?
For an ordinary city trip where the local system uses meters, ask that it be activated. For an airport, intercity or long waiting journey, a fixed or estimated fare may be appropriate.
Before departure, clarify:

Download the location for offline use. A screenshot of a pin without the written address is less useful if the route changes.
Paying
Bosnian convertible marks remain the dependable cash option. Some taxis accept cards, including services associated with particular airports or companies, but confirm before the journey.
Carry smaller notes. If paying by card, check the displayed amount and currency. Ask for a receipt when the journey relates to business, insurance, a missed connection or a complaint.
Sarajevo
Taxis are useful for the airport, railway and bus stations, Ilidža and hillside accommodation. The historic core is often faster on foot than by car.
Traffic restrictions and events can move the practical pickup point. Agree a landmark or legal stopping place rather than asking a driver to enter a pedestrian street.

Within central Mostar, walking covers much of the visitor area. Taxis help with luggage, the station and local movements outside the centre.
Blagaj, Počitelj and Kravica are separate outings. A taxi to one place does not create a guaranteed return or a guided regional tour. Agree waiting and return, or use a driver or organised excursion.
Tuzla, Banja Luka, Bihać and smaller towns
Ask accommodation for the current local dispatch method and realistic availability. In a smaller town, the number of vehicles at night, on Sunday or at a remote attraction may be limited.
A regional taxi can make sense for a short gap. For a long intercity route, compare a pre-booked transfer with a taxi quote and obtain the total in writing.
Ride-hailing and applications
Do not assume the app used at home operates legally or reliably in Bosnia. Local companies may offer telephone, messaging or their own applications.
Before relying on any platform, confirm:

- who provides the ride;

- support if the driver does not arrive.

Rural returns and waiting
The outbound journey is only half the plan. At a lake, mountain, village or waterfall, confirm:
- whether the driver waits;
- waiting charge;
- return time;
- mobile signal;
- backup contact;
- the latest site or property access.
If the driver leaves, save vehicle and company details and receive explicit confirmation that another pickup is booked.
Child seats
Request a restraint in advance and provide the child's details. An available taxi at a rank should not be assumed to carry one.
Inspect the restraint and ensure everyone uses a seat belt. A larger vehicle may be required once seats and luggage are counted.
Mobility devices and access
Tell the provider the device dimensions, whether it folds, transfer method, securement and help the passenger accepts. A standard estate car or van is not automatically accessible.
Confirm the drop-off surface and route to the entrance. The closest legal vehicle point may still involve cobbles, kerbs or a slope.
